As the issue regarding the absence of cash incentives for the part-time instructors continues, Bulacan State University (BulSU) President Mariano De Jesus had finally addressed the matter in public.
During his speech in the BulSU Loyalty Awards 2013, De Jesus explained his side, stating that for almost six years, he has been giving cash incentives, until it was being refunded during the sixth year.
“’Yung mga nandito, for the past six years, alam po nila na taun-taon, meron tayong natatanggap na incentives,” said the president. “Ginawa po naming ‘yan for almost six years, kaya lang nung pang-anim na taon, pina-refund.”

Aside from this, the president appealed to his part-timers to “not be materialistic,” and instead focus on “serving the students.”
“Ang gusto ko lang pong makita sa inyo, ay ‘yung loyalty hindi sa mga bagay na material, kundi ‘yung loyalty sa satisfaction because you’re serving the people,” said De Jesus. “Nagkataon lang po na mahigpit ang panahon ngayon.”
On the other hand, De Jesus revealed that he has no plans of extending his stay in duty until 70 years old, despite requests of many of his colleagues.
“Formally, I would like to announce to you, that I would not extend my services up to 70 years old,” stated De Jesus.
“Gusto ko naman enjoyin ang buhay ko ng dadalawin ko lang kayo, dadalhan ko kayo ng magandang balita at pamemeryendahin nyo lang naman ako,” he jokingly added.
Furthermore, 79 loyalty awardees from the faculty, retirees and even posthumous categories who served from 10-35 years were acknowledged during the program. Each of them was given a certificate, a surprise gift pack from BulSU and various cash prizes.
